Figurative Paintings click
You always start learning 'life form' at art school. This is to teach you to 'look' and the body is the surest way to establish if you have got the lines right and of course painting was (in the olden times) about capturing 'reality' and a likeness of person - which photography has somewhat replaced. So now 'artists' have a new role 'to give the public a new way of seeing'

I've only just got back into 'figurative' work -I always found it slightly tedious because I want to 'invent' but I'm finding it fun now!

Realistic Landscape Paintings click
You can't start 'inventing' until you understand tonal values, line and composition. I spent around 30 years (learning my trade) and painting landscapes - my way of course - but all my paintings were based on 'tonal drawings' from landscape. I only now paint 'realistic' landscapes to commission.

Interpretive Landscape Paintings click
Started with the 'impressionists' - thank goodness a new way of seeing! I can do an impressionistic landscape in about 10 minutes!! (With around 10 layers of preparation on the canvas first though!!)

Purple Tree Paintings click
I started painting my 'purple trees' around 15 years ago - now everyone is doing it! I still enjoy it and can't generally paint them quick enough - especially in Marbella - everyone wants one!!

Colour Paintings click
Painting is a complicated business! I analyse, study and excite myself with new ideas. Presently I am banging on about 'Colour' which has two values - hue and luminosity - I have to work in different ways to get the best out of both!

Abstract Paintings click
The nearly last stage in developing as an artist (to me). As Picasso said 'There is no such thing as abstract - you always start with something' and I don't cheat(!!) by just throwing paint around and THEN see how it makes me feel. Every abstract has a strong concept and is deconstructed line and form - with a very strong starting point. i.e the emotion comes BEFORE the painting!!

Imaginative Paintings click
This to me is the ultimate painting 'experience' or journey. Let your imagination go wild. Painting is, in fact, 90% idea - 10% paint on canvas. So my 'Imaginative paintings' can be inspired by 'conversations' or more likely a 'concept' - like 'Too Much Chocolate Makes You Sick!!'

GALLERIES OF PAINTINGS

I am an eclectic painter - constantly exploring form, composition, colour and technique.

I believe being a painter is a constant journey - not just concentrating on one particular style - which I know makes you famous!

I paint for me and my journey of exploration and excitement!

MY PRACTICE

My essence is emotion. I want every painting I create to evoke emotion in the viewer. I think a sense of humour is important (without being 'twee') and I don't want to be inspired by other painters but to work with my own inspirations, ideas, feelings and emotions.
